Sound Composition: layered effects

Describe a source and action. Find a core sound and supporting layers in local libraries, then audition and revise the effect.

Prepare libraries and a description

Scan and enable Sounds libraries and configure Chat AI. This needs assets that exist in the library; it does not generate new audio from nothing.

  • •Source: what is it, such as a heavy mechanical door?
  • •Action: what happens, such as slowly opening?
  • •Layers: what details matter, such as metal friction and low rumble?

Listen before refining

  1. 01Choose Sound Composition in Chat and enter “a heavy mechanical door opening with metal friction and low rumble.”
  2. 02Audition the composition. Check the recognizable core first, then whether supporting layers are excessive.
  3. 03Request specific changes: “shorter impact, less low end, friction starts earlier.” Import a result you like into REAPER for further editing.

What does layout mode mean?

Sequence
Place layers in time order, useful for an action with distinct stages.
Overlap
Play multiple layers together to add weight or texture.
