Playback and waveform selections

Choose how to audition a sound, select the part you need, and send the asset or excerpt into REAPER.

01

Volume, rate, Reverse, and Mono

Volume
Adjust audition level before considering changes to the source file.
Rate / 1.0x
Ranges from 0.5x to 2x; 1.0x is original speed. Rate also changes pitch—it is not a separate pitch-preserving speed control.
Reverse
Audition backward for reversed transitions or suction-like sounds.
Mono
Audition in mono to check phase and mono compatibility.

Use only part of a sound

  1. 01Select a sound and drag a time range on its waveform.
  2. 02Adjust the range edges, play it, and loop if needed.
  3. 03Drag the selection into REAPER or use an available Spot action. Without a range, the sound is handled as a whole asset.

Channels and channel lock

Click channel buttons to enable or disable them. To hear only one, turn the others off; at least one must remain enabled. Lock keeps the channel choice while comparing assets. Unlock before changing it.

04

Activity regions locate sound, not delete silence

Enable activity regions to highlight waveform areas above a threshold. This helps locate an impact, footstep, or other event. Lower the threshold to include quiet tails; raise it to exclude background noise. Confirm the selection yourself.
